Another U.S. Player to Build 3GW PV Module Factory, Joining the Ranks of First Solar, Corning, Suniva and Heliene

Hounen Solar U.S.is set to break ground on a 3GW solar module manufacturing plant in South Carolina by 2026. Located in Summerville, the facility will span 1.0192 million square feet and integrate cutting-edge automation, smart manufacturing, and high-efficiency PV technology. Concurrently, the company’s existing 200,720-square-foot factory in Orangeburg, South Carolina, already operates at 1GW module capacity, serving residential, commercial rooftop, and utility-scale solar project solutions.
Recently, U.S. photovoltaic enterprises have been intensively expanding their module production capacity. First Solar has announced an investment of approximately USD 330 million to construct a 3.7 GW module facility in Gaffney, South Carolina, dedicated to supporting the production of its Series 6 Plus products, with commercial operations scheduled for the second half of 2026. In June, Singapore-based Bila Solar launched the production of U.S.-content solar modules at its factory in Indianapolis, Indiana, marking its entry into full-scale U.S. domestic manufacturing. These products adopt U.S.-made cells and focus on high-efficiency panels. As early as March this year, materials science company Corning, crystalline silicon solar cell manufacturer Suniva, and solar module producer Heliene jointly established the first U.S.-localized photovoltaic module supply chain. Covering polysilicon, wafers, cells and other key sectors, this supply chain exclusively serves domestically produced modules for the U.S. market.
A report by Wood Mackenzie and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) indicates that despite policy-related headwinds hampering clean energy development, the U.S. solar industry still achieved growth in the second quarter of 2025, with module production capacity reaching 55.4 GW — a scale exceeding the annual solar installation volume when these factories operate at full capacity.
